Using the Standard Atmosphere Calculator
(Continued...)
Example 2:
In Standard Atmosphere at what altitude is the pressure half of that at sea level? What is the temperature and pressure at that altitude?
The pressure ratio is the ratio between air pressure at a certain altitude and the sea level pressure. The ratio for the pressure to be half, or 50%, will be 0.50. Lets select the pressure ratio field and highlight it with the mouse.
Next, type in the 0.50 value.
As you finish entering the value, all the other properties are calculated for you, including the:
a -
Altitude in feet which is 17985.6 or about 18,000 feet
b -
The temperature in Celsius is -20.6021 oC or rounded up -21 oC.
c -
The air pressure is 1.49606e+1 inHg or approximately 15 inHg.
In this case we entered data in the Pressure Ratio field, however you can enter information in ANY field, and as long as it is within the range or envelope of Standard Atmosphere. This means that you actually have 378 function combinations on this caluclator!
