Using the Pressure Altitude Calculator
(2nd calculator)
Example 1:
Using a pressure sensor that measures the absolute pressure (actual pressure) of the air, you read 28.60 inHg. At what pressure altitude are you?
Begin by highlighting the field that corresponds to absolute atmospheric pressure in inHg.
Enter the 28.60 value. Read the answer 1244 ft on (a). You also get a result in meters in (b).
Example 2:
You are at your airplane which is parked at the airport. You set the altimeter to 29.92 to obtain the pressure altitude which reads 1280 m (suppose your altimeter is in meters). What is the absolute atmospheric pressure in inHg at your location?:
Begin by highlighting the field that corresponds to the pressure altitude in m.
Enter the 1280 value.
Read the answer 25.65 inHg on (a). You also get a result in HPa or mbar in (b).
