  Using the Cloud Base Calculator

Example 1:

Listening to the airport's ATIS, you learn that the temperature at the airport is 20 oC and the dewpoint is 7 oC. If clouds form or already have formed, what is the base of the lowest cloud layer likely to be?

Begin by highlighting the field that corresponds to air temperature at ground level in oC.

Enter the 20 value for the temperature.

Now highlight the field that corresponds to the dewpoint at ground level in oC.

Enter the 7 value for the dewpoint.

The remaining field is the cloud base altitude above ground level (AGL). Press "Eval" and read the answer 5318 ft on (a). You also get a result in meters in (b).

As you click on the "Eval" button, other properties that can be calculated from the data entered will be shown in the correlated variables section.
